Many factors go into the choice of air pressure for wire wiping, such as: the clearance between the wire and the wiping cylinder, the length of the wiping cylinder, the centering of the wire in the air wipe, the degree of contamination, the wire speed, etc. Therefore no fast rule of thumb can be strictly followed.
The best approach is to start at low pressure and gradually increase the pressure by adjusting the control at the pressure regulator until the wire emerges from the air wipe to your satisfaction. In the event increasing the air pressure fails to completely cleanse the wire, the reason may be the length of the wiping cylinder does not match your wire speed. Consider using COSMOS dual modular air wipe.
It is desirable to install the regulator upstream but close to the air wipe. Indeed, you may want many throughout the system as, by adjusting the pressure down to the lowest possible functioning level at each air-using application, you can save a substantial amount on your monthly compressed air bill.
Please take note that all of our air wipe quick couplings are rated at 15 bars or 217 psi, which is considered adequate for the majority of air wiping applications.
